First Ever Woman's Time Trial Challenge
LOS ANGELES (April 14, 2011) – AEG has announced details of the inaugural Amgen Tour of California Women's International Time Trial Challenge presented by Specialized and SRAM, which will take place in Solvang during Stage 6 of the 2011 Amgen Tour of California on Friday, May 20. Using the same course as the Stage 6 men’s individual time trial in Solvang, the women’s event will be a 12-person invitation, showcasing some of the best women athletes in the world racing for a $10,000 prize pool.

Click here to watch ourAfter a hiatus in 2010, the Amgen Tour of California’s individual time trial returns to Solvang, the charming Danish-American village celebrating its 100th anniversary this year--that plays host annually to some of the Pro Tour teams for training camps, as well as some of the largest cycling events in the U.S. With the start and finish lines located only one block apart, Stage 6 will be an ideal location for spectators to view the individual time trial stage known as the “race of truth” where each cyclist races against the clock on a closed course. The route will highlight the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley, windingthrough quaint towns, vineyards, and farms, and one short but steep climb up Ballard Canyon. This year's short (15 mile/24 km), flat and fast time trial will create a challenging test for the riders and is expected to be a decisive day of the race. As in the past, the Solvang time trial will separate the true contenders for the golden jersey from the rest of the field.

With the return of the Amgen Tour of California Individual Time Trial to Solvang on Friday, May 20, 2011, comes the opportunity to sign up for the ATOC VIP Experience and ride like the pros in the “Race of Truth”.
