Amateur Timed Ride of the Official Stage 5 Amgen Tour of California Time Trial Course
Friday February 20, 2008 starting at 11:15 am
Your unique adventure starts at the official Time Trial Chute on the starting line of the Stage 6 Amgen Tour of California where you’ll be sent off the ramp by the ATOC starters, wearing your Official ATOC bib number, racing against the clock to the finish line on Copenhagen Drive.
Top 3 finishers will receive recognition on the Awards Stage at the conclusion of the Amgen Tour of California Stage 6 Pro Race.

Riders should be capable of completing the course at a 20 mph average speed. Those who cannot complete the course in the allotted time may be removed to avoid interference with the professional race.
A USA Cycling License is required, a One Day license will be available.

"I've been racing bikes since the age of 9. BMX in the '80's, turned into Mountain Biking in the '90's, and Road Cycling over the last 10 years. A lot of my love for the sport came straight from my "heart" and usually had to do with the feelings that came along with the memories of riding as a boy. Now that I am older, I have an expanded appreciation for the sport for more reasons than just nostalgia. Two years ago, I suffered a life threatening heart attack at the young age of 36 and was challenged with a rehabilitation program that demanded a slow recovery to get back on the bike. In this recovery period, I truly changed my perception of cycling beyond "the drive for a personal best"... to an appreciation for cycling as a catalyst for health and wellness! So, when offered the opportunity to celebrate my recovery last year at the AMGEN "Race of Truth", I jumped at the challenge and was the first one on the list for 2009's event!!! Solvang and the TT Stage of the TOC now symbolizes a test of strength & survival for me and the chance to be a part of a race that showcases the world's greatest athletes. Being a part of this event keeps me motivated on every training ride throughout the year and most importantly keeps my heart in shape to live another day. It is truly a dream event for any road cyclist. Everyone needs motivation in life and this event is a large part of my annual motivation... An added bonus is that I get to race against Lance this year!"

The Race of Truth was a great and unique experience! The organizers hosted a dinner the night before the race where we got to meet the other riders and talk bikes and cycling. The race was very well organized, the course was challenging but fun and the fan support was phenomenal! I'm looking forward to doing it again. ~Frank~
