LOCAL ROAD & TRAVEL INFO ON RACE DAY~FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2009
The Solvang Time Trial Starting Line is located at Mission Drive (HWY 246) & First Street. Finish Line is located on Copenhagen Drive & First Street (one block from Start). Lifestyle Festival is at Solvang Park and beyond. All race day events are FREE and open to the public.
SOLVANG TIME TRIAL “TURN BY TURN” 15-MILE ROUTE DETAILS:
Start at Mission Drive & First Street; Left on Alisal Road; Right on Viborg Road; Left on Alamo Pintado Road; Right on Baseline Avenue; Left on Refugio Road; Left on Roblar Avenue; Right on Grand Avenue through downtown Los Olivos; Left at Flagpole/Alamo Pintado Avenue; Right on Steele Street; Steele becomes Ballard Canyon Road; (Sharp left turn and begin climbing; Top of climb is 965 feet); head straight onto Chalk Hill Road; cross Fredensborg Canyon Road; now on Atterdag Road; pass Solvang School; Cross Mission Drive; Sharp Left on Copenhagen Drive. Finish Line on Copenhagen at First Street.
The Solvang Time Trial Race Route will be closed to ALL TRAFFIC from the start of the race until the last racer completes the route--estimated to be from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. However, some specific streets will have different closures to accommodate race set-up and teardown as follows:
Mission Drive (HWY 246) will be closed from Fifth Street to Alisal Road and traffic diverted along Oak Street early in the morning (approximately 6:00 AM) to allow for set up of the race start line. It will reopen at approximately 6:00 PM (after all race set-ups have been removed).
Mission Drive (HWY 246) Detour Traffic will be able to travel through Solvang via the Southern Detour Route. Entering from the West, right on 5th St., left on Oak St., Left on Alisal and right on Mission Drive (HWY 246). Entering from the East side of town, left at Alisal, right at Oak St., right on 5th St. and left on Mission Drive (HWY 246).
First & Second Street from Oak Street to Mission Drive and Copenhagen Drive from Atterdag Road to Alisal Road will be closed at 8 PM on Thursday, February 19 to allow for race set-up. They will remain closed until Friday at 7 PM.
Parking Lot 2 on Copenhagen Drive near Solvang Park will be closed at 8 AM on Thursday, February 19 to allow for set up of the free Lifestyle Festival. It will remain closed until Friday at 10 PM.
FREE BIKE VALET ON RACE DAY
Complimentary bike parking is located at the northwest corner of Mission Drive (HWY 246) and Atterdag Road--hosted by the Solvang Local Organizing Committee volunteers (LOC).
FREE SHUTTLE SERVICE PROVIDED BY SANTA YNEZ VALLEY TRANSIT ON RACE DAY
(Regular bus schedules will not run on Friday, February 20, 2009.)
From 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, there will be four shuttles running continuous loops from Buellton to Solvang. Shuttle stops in Buellton are across from Pea Soup Andersen’s Restaurant, Highway 246 & Avenue of Flags AND Albertsons Market/Town Center Shopping Center, located at Highway 246 & US 101 to downtown Solvang at Highway 246 (Mission Drive) and Fifth Street.
